Blockchain Diamond Journey

Our blockchain keeps track of every step in a diamond’s journey – from mining, to market, to the moment it reaches you – safely, securely, and permanently. With our blockchain-enabled diamonds, you’ll have an enduring digital record about where your diamond comes from and how it was sourced. In 2019, we became one of the first retailers to offer blockchain-enabled diamonds, and year after year we have increased our offering of blockchain-enabled diamonds, ahead of our ESG Goals.

Map of Botswana Sort diamond origin locations

Botswana Sort diamonds were discovered in Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa. In line with our Beyond Conflict Free Diamonds standard, these diamonds are recovered sustainably, and the mines invest in infrastructure, skills training, health care, and education of the local communities. Mines have environmental management programs to help minimize impact on the surrounding areas, protect local habitats and wildlife, and responsible closure plans in place for when diamond recovery is complete.

A rough diamond before polishing

Each rough diamond is analyzed by an experienced rough assortment expert and assigned a unique identification. The impurities of the rough diamond are plotted with the help of advanced technology. An expert plans the best possible polished diamond that can be cut from the rough and a laser beam is then set on the planned markings removing the undesired inclusions. The polished diamond is recorded to the blockchain.

In addition to implementing blockchain technology for enhanced traceability, this supplier generates approximately 55% of their energy from renewable sources through a combination of rooftop solar and offsite wind. They give back to educational and healthcare initiatives, and environmental projects focused on lake development and vital water resources. As an employer, they are dedicated to ensuring accessibility for all individuals, including those with disabilities. Their facilities, processes, and technologies are designed to be inclusive and barrier-free and they provide reasonable accommodations and support to enable all employees to thrive in their roles and contribute to the success of the organization.

An artisan facets the rough diamond on a polishing metal wheel to create exquisite sparkle and brilliance. An experienced diamond grader checks around 50 parameters beyond carat, cut, color, and clarity to give a final grading. If any changes and manufacturing remnants due to faceting occurred, it is sent back for re-faceting. A diamond certificate, also known as a diamond report, is issued by an accredited independent gemological laboratory.

The Four C's of Your Diamond

Diamond Size: 0.35 Ct

The carat is the unit of weight of a diamond. Carat is often confused with size even though it is actually a measure of weight. One carat equals 200 milligrams or 0.2 grams. The scale below illustrates the typical size relationship between diamonds of increasing carat weights. Remember that while the measurements below are typical, every diamond is unique.

Cut: Ideal

The cut refers to the angles and proportions of a diamond. The cut of a diamond - its form and finish, its depth and width, the uniformity of the facets - determines its beauty. The skill with which a diamond is cut determines how well it reflects and refracts light.

Clarity: VS2

A diamond's clarity refers to the presence of impurities on and within the stone. When a rough stone is extracted from carbon deep beneath the earth, tiny traces of natural elements are almost always trapped inside and are called inclusions.

Color: F

Color is the natural color visible in a diamond and does not change over time. Colorless diamonds allow more light to pass through than a colored diamond, releasing more sparkle and fire. Acting as a prism, a diamond divides light into a spectrum of colors and reflects this light as colorful flashes called fire.
