Ring Size Chart

A ring size chart is used to determine the numerical size that best fits your finger. In this guide, we’ll explain how to use a ring size chart to find your perfect fit.

What Is a Ring Size?

Ring size refers to the number that corresponds to the inner measurement of a ring. In the United States, ring sizes typically range from size 3 to 13 in quarter-size increments.

A well-fitting ring should feel snug yet comfortable. It should slide over the knuckle with a bit of resistance and sit securely at the base of the finger without feeling tight. The goal is a fit that feels natural and stays in place during daily activities without constriction.

FAQ

What size is my ring?

If you already own a ring that fits well, you can determine its size by measuring the inner circumference or by placing it on a printed ring size conversion guide. Align the inside edge of the ring with the circle that matches it most closely. The number associated with that circle indicates your size. For more ways to determine your ring size, explore our How to Measure Ring Size guide.

What are ring sizes measured in?

Ring sizes are typically measured using the inside circumference of the ring in millimeters or inches. In the United States, Canada, and Mexico, sizes are denoted by numerical values (for example, size 6 or 7.5). Other systems, such as those used in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia, use different scales, including letters or number ranges, to represent sizes.

How do I measure ring finger size?

To measure your ring finger size, wrap a flexible measuring tape or a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger. Mark where the ends meet, then measure the length in millimeters or inches. This measurement represents your finger circumference, which can be matched to a size using a ring size conversion chart. For detailed step-by-step instructions and measurement tips, visit our How to Measure Ring Size guide.

How can I get my ring size?

There are several reliable ways to determine your ring size:

  • Use a ring size conversion chart to compare an existing ring.
  • Measure your finger using a string, paper strip, or flexible tape.
  • Order a ring sizer tool for at-home precision.
  • Visit a jewelry store to have your ring size professionally measured.

Each option provides helpful insight, but a professional fitting offers the most accurate results. To learn more about measuring from home, visit our How to Measure Ring Size guide, or schedule a personalized appointment to get fitted for your ring size at a Brilliant Earth showroom near you.

How do I measure ring size using a ring size chart?

A ring size chart displays numerical sizes alongside their corresponding measurements in millimeters or inches. These measurements typically include the inner circumference and sometimes the inner diameter of the ring. To determine your size, locate the row or column that matches your measurement.

For example, if your finger circumference measures 54 mm, you would look for the closest match in the chart. In this case, 54 mm corresponds to approximately a US size 7. If your measurement falls between two sizes, it’s best to size up for a more comfortable fit.

When reading a ring size chart, pay attention to the measurement units used (millimeters vs. inches) and the region’s sizing system (US, UK, EU, etc.). Most charts are arranged in ascending order, making it easy to compare and identify your corresponding size.

Are ring sizes standard?

Ring sizes are not standardized globally. Different countries use their own measurement systems, some based on numbers, others are based on letters or millimeters. For example, a US size 6 is approximately equivalent to a UK size L ½ or an EU size 52. Within the same region, however, ring sizes are generally consistent across brands.
