How to Use a Ring Sizer
Using our ring sizer is simple. It works like a miniature belt: slide it onto your finger, adjust until it fits comfortably, and read the corresponding size.
Steps:
- Insert the pointed end through the buckle to create a loop.
- Slide the loop over your finger and adjust until it feels snug but comfortable. Always measure the hand and finger you plan to wear the ring on, as your dominant and nondominant hands can differ slightly in size.
- Make sure the sizer passes over your knuckle with gentle resistance. This helps ensure your ring won't slip off during daily wear.
- Check the size number to the left of the arrow. That's your US ring size.
Additional Tips:
- Measure more than once at different times of day. Finger size can fluctuate slightly due to temperature, activity, or hydration. Taking two or three measurements and comparing them provides a more accurate average. The best time to measure is toward the middle or end of the day, when your fingers are at their largest.
- If your knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of your finger, measure both areas and choose a size in between. This helps the ring slide over the knuckle comfortably while still fitting securely at the base.
- Wider bands fit more tightly than thinner ones. Plan to size up by at least a half size for wide bands (over 4mm) and size down accordingly for very thin designs (under 1.3mm).
A properly fitting ring should feel secure and natural on your hand. Here's what to check for:
- Slides smoothly over your knuckle
- Feels secure but not tight
- Stays in place without pinching or slipping
If in doubt, choose a slightly larger size. Rings can typically be resized down more easily than up.
How to Read a Ring Sizer
The number that appears to the left of the arrow on our Brilliant Earth ring sizer is your ring size. For example, if the indicator shows "6," your size is a US 6.
Ring sizes are expressed in millimeters (mm), not inches, and sizing systems vary by region. If you need to convert your US measurement, use our international ring size chart to find your equivalent in UK, European, or other international sizes.
