Men’s Ring Size Chart

A men’s ring size chart is a reliable way to help you find the correct ring size based on your finger circumference. In this guide, we’ll explain how men’s ring sizes are measured and how to find your ring size using our chart and free sizer.

Men’s Ring Sizes

Men’s ring sizes are measured using numerical values that correspond to the inner circumference of a ring. The most common men’s ring sizes are sizes 9 and 10. All Brilliant Earth’s men's rings are crafted in standard US sizes. View the chart below to see how US sizes map to finger circumference and convert to international sizes.

How to Measure Men's Ring Size

Measuring ring size helps ensure a secure and comfortable fit for everyday wear. There are several reliable methods to accurately determine men's ring size, whether at home or with professional assistance.

To ensure accuracy:

  • Always measure the hand and finger where you plan to wear the ring, as even small differences can affect the fit.
  • Size up by at least half a size for wide bands (over 4 mm) and size down slightly for very thin designs (under 1.3 mm).
  • Measure when your hands are at normal temperature — not too cold or too warm.
  • Take measurements multiple times throughout the day to account for natural fluctuations.
  • If your knuckle is more prominent than the base of your finger, measure both areas and choose a size that’s in between. This makes sure that the ring will fit comfortably over the knuckle without feeling too tight or loose.

For the best fit, your ring should be snug enough to stay in place yet loose enough to slide smoothly over your knuckle. When deciding between two sizes, it’s generally best to choose the larger size for comfort.

Method 1: Request a Free Ring Sizer

Besides visiting a jeweler to have your ring size measured in person, the most precise way to measure ring size is to use a plastic ring sizer.

Our ring sizer is an accurate way to measure your finger before making your purchase. It’s designed to mimic the feel of an actual ring, giving you a true sense of how each size will fit on your hand. All you have to do is wrap our sizer around the finger you'd like to measure and adjust it to the size that feels right.

Method 2: Use a Printable Ring Sizer

If you're in a hurry, you can also use a printable ring size conversion chart for quick reference.

What you'll need:

  • Printer & paper
  • Scissors

Steps:

  1. Print a Printable Ring Sizer & Conversion Chart. Set page scaling to "100" in your print settings and use 8.5 x 11-inch standard paper.
  2. Cut out the sizer. Follow the provided guidelines to carefully cut out the paper ring sizer and the slot as instructed.
  3. Wrap it around your finger. Slide the pointed end through the slit and gently pull until the ring sizer fits snugly around the base of your finger.
  4. Read your size. The number visible through the slit corresponds to your ring size.

Method 3: Use a Ring You Already Have

If you already own a ring that fits the intended finger, you can use it to determine your ring size.

What you'll need:

  • Printer & paper
  • An existing ring

Steps:

  1. Print a Printable Ring Sizer & Conversion ChartSet page scaling to "100" in your print settings and use 8.5 x 11-inch standard paper.
  2. Select a well-fitting ring. Use a ring that comfortably slides on and off the finger you’re measuring.
  3. Match the ring to the chart. Place the ring directly over the printed circles until the inside edge aligns perfectly with one of the circle outlines.
  4. Check the alignment carefully. You should be able to see the circle just touching the inside edge of the ring without any overlap.
  5. Confirm the size. The number in the matching circle represents your ring size.

Method 4: Use a Tape Measure

Using a flexible tape measure allows you to calculate the circumference of your finger directly to determine your ring size.

What you'll need:

  • A flexible tape measure

Steps:

  1. Wrap the tape measure around your finger. Choose the finger you plan to wear the ring on and gently wrap a flexible measuring tape around the base of the finger.
  2. Note the millimeter or inch measurement. Record the point where the tape overlaps, ensuring it’s snug but not tight. A ring should slide comfortably over the knuckle and rest securely at the base of the finger.
  3. Convert to ring size. Use a ring size conversion chart to match your finger’s circumference measurement to the corresponding ring size.

If you don’t have a tape measure:

  • Use string, yarn, floss, or a thin strip of paper.
  • Wrap it around your finger as described above and mark where it overlaps.
  • Lay it flat and measure the length with a ruler, then compare the measurement to a ring size chart.

FAQ

What is the average ring size for men?

The average ring size for men typically falls between size 9 and size 10 in the US sizing system. A size 9 ring has an inner circumference of approximately 59.5 mm, while a size 10 measures around 62.1 mm.

Are men’s and women’s ring sizes the same?

Men’s and women’s rings use the same sizing scale, meaning a size 7 men’s ring and a size 7 women’s ring have the same internal dimensions. However, there are differences in common size ranges and ring proportions.

The most common size for women’s rings falls between sizes 6 and 7, while the most common size for men’s rings ranges from sizes 9 and 10. Band width also plays a role in how the ring fit, wider bands (more common in men’s styles) may feel tighter and sometimes require sizing up by half a size for comfort.

What is comfort fit?

Unlike standard or “flat fit” bands, which have a straight inner surface, comfort fit styles have gently curved edges on the inside of the band. This contour minimizes friction and pressure, creating a more natural feel, especially for wider bands.

Comfort fit designs are particularly popular for men’s wedding bands because they balance a secure fit with added ease for everyday wear. The subtle curve can make the ring feel larger than a standard fit, so it’s recommended to compare both styles when determining your size.
