How to Get the Engagement Ring You Want

How to Get the Engagement Ring You Want

Some women aren’t too particular about the style or color of an engagement ring and will love whatever ring their beloved chooses, simply because he chose it. But if you’re not one of those women, don’t be ashamed! There’s nothing wrong with having specific tastes and opinions about rings, and if that describes you then you should probably not leave it to chance. After all, you’re going to wear it for the rest of your life, so you should be (almost) as in love with your ring as you are with your future husband. Here are some tactics for ensuring he proposes with the ring of your dreams:

Go shopping with him.

Whether or not to shop for rings together is a controversial topic, since some find it unromantic. But if you’re already discussing marriage, why not turn ring shopping into an exciting and bonding part of getting engaged? Here at Brilliant Earth we frequently work with couples who come into our showroom together to shop for her ring, and they are usually brimming over with excitement and not at all lacking in romance.

Give him guidance, but leave an element of surprise.

If you are torn between wanting the ring to be a surprise when he proposes and wanting to ensure it’s not a bad kind of surprise, choose a few settings you love but let him make the final decision in secret, or select a specific setting and let him pick the center gem. At Brilliant Earth we commonly work with couples walking this part surprise/part not middle road.

Put a Pin on it.

If you have a Pinterest account, pin photos of rings you love. Of course, this only works if your man knows what Pinterest is and would think to look there . . . and if you’re comfortable broadcasting the fact that you have engagement on the brain. (Follow Brilliant Earth on Pinterest for inspiration.)

Ask a girlfriend to guide him.

If you’re confident he’s thinking of proposing and you have a girlfriend who you trust with raising the topic, ask her to mention to him that she knows what ring styles are your favorites. Once armed with her advice he’ll be able to choose a ring you love while maintaining more secrecy than if you’d gone shopping together.

Let us drop him a hint.

If you want to give him ring buying guidance without talking about it too directly, use our “Email a Friend” feature to send him links to ring settings and styles you adore.
No matter which route you choose—shopping together, letting him surprise you, or somewhere in between—we bet you’ll love the final result once it’s on your finger. And if you don’t? Brilliant Earth rings (other than custom designs) are fully returnable and refundable for 30 days from the date of purchase. If you have any questions at all about engagement ring shopping, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Final Thoughts

Viewing this with a practical outlook, do not clutter the ring up with small diamonds, keep the center stone as large as the man can comfortably afford. It makes good sense and it is a good source of emergency cash, in case of a dire need of emergency funds. Personally I believe in a sizable blue sapphire encircled with smaller diamonds, provides a lovely engagement ring, and not what the other girls are toting around on their fingers. Pave’ rings are for flash but worth less that larger stones. Good Luck and I pray that you married life with be both long and healthy and all your children happy with two wonderful, loving parents.

I honestly believe the wedding band should be engraved with something sincere, such as “I will love you forever, on both sides of life!”
