Since our founding twenty years ago, Brilliant Earth has been on a mission to transform the jewelry industry through ethical and responsible practices. Inspired by our founders’ commitment to drive positive change within the industry, we have focused on a multilayered approach that addresses sourcing standards, enhances traceability, and engages with suppliers across the chain of custody. Our two-decade track record of sustainability and responsible sourcing includes working closely with these partners to improve their ethical, environmental and social impact.
Of these efforts, our pioneering Beyond Conflict Free® standard is most notable. When introduced in 2005, our aim was to go above and beyond the industry norm. We expanded upon Kimberley Process standards to ensure that our natural diamonds not only came from conflict-free regions but contributed to the betterment of communities and the environment. Through Beyond Conflict Free® and other programs like Moyo Gems, we have seen firsthand that natural diamonds and gemstones, when governed properly, have the potential for great social and economic impacts.
As part of our ongoing quest to improve mining practices worldwide, we are expanding our offerings to include Pathway to Beyond Conflict Free™ diamonds that are traceable and sourced exclusively from vetted suppliers who undergo rigorous audits to ensure safe working conditions.
We are beginning this journey in Angola, which is already working towards accelerating sustainable development and increasing economic opportunity for its citizens through bolstered two-way trade with the US. A country known for diamonds with exceptional quality, Angola’s largest mines are already participating in transformational investments and initiatives ranging from social and environmental certifications, community programs for social and economic development, and blockchain-powered traceability. While Angola's diamond industry is still evolving and we recognize there are opportunities, we are supportive of their growing investment in responsible mining practices and are encouraged by their ongoing progress and stated commitment.
We are engaging with Angola's diamond sector to inspire positive change, using our Beyond Conflict Free® standard as the benchmark for industry-leading practices. We are closely monitoring progress towards these milestones and are pleased to offer Pathway to Beyond Conflict Free™ diamonds from Angola to support their continued work towards more responsible mining practices.
