Are synthetic sapphires the same as natural sapphires?
Synthetic sapphires share the same chemical and optical properties as natural sapphires but originate in a laboratory. Synthetics are easily grown, but are also easily identified by growth markings and characteristically circular color zonings. Most lab-grown sapphires also have air bubbles-growth pockets not found in a natural sapphire. The color of lab grown sapphires is a consistent shade of vivid medium blue that does not exhibit any modifying hues, like green or violet. They are a great alternative to natural sapphires and are available at lower prices. Brilliant Earth offers synthetic sapphires in a range of size and shapes.
